Is Harvard Worth $50,000 If It’s Only Online? That Depends on Who You Ask (Micro News for August 8, 2020 – August 14, 2020)

Harvard students will be studying 100% online this fall and many of them are not happy about the Covid-19 driven change. One Harvard freshman, Lucy Tu, is disappointed she will not be attending face-to-face classes with her peers and will still pay the same $49,653 in tuition and fees. If she opts to live on campus for one semester and attend online classes, she will pay $63,000 for limited interaction with classmates and faculty. Her third option is to postpone admission and take a gap year.

Ford Workers Approve Labor Deal (Micro News for November 16, 2019 – November 22, 2019)

The United Autoworkers Union (UAW) just approved a four-year labor agreement with Ford and avoided a strike such as the recent one that shut down GM production. Ford workers will get a 6% raise over the life of the contract and a $9,000 signing bonus. Other provisions were directed at helping new hires reach veteran pay scale sooner and creating permanent positions for some temporary workers.
