UAW Threatens to Strike Ford Truck Plant in Kentucky if Local Issues Aren’t Resolved (Micro News for February 17, 2024 – February 23, 2024)

Ford's truck plant based in Kentucky may be shut down due to a strike if the United Auto Workers (UAW) demands are not met. The Kentucky facility produces Ford's biggest pickups and SUVs and is the largest facility in terms of revenue generation and employee headcount.

GM and the UAW Come to Tentative Agreement (Micro News for October 28, 2023 – November 3, 2023)

The United Auto Workers (UAW) union and General Motors (GM) tentatively agreed on terms to end the strike after the UAW expanded the strike to a plant in Texas. The strike at the Texas plant alone is estimated to cost GM $130 million per week. To date, the total costs to GM of the UAW strike are over $800 million.

Workers at Major Hotels in Southern California Begin Strike Over Holiday Weekend (Micro News for July 1, 2023 – July 7, 2023)

A labor union that represents about 15,000 hotel workers in Southern California followed through with their threat to strike over the holiday weekend. The strike affected 65 hotels in the Los Angeles area including the Ritz-Carlton and the Four Seasons Regent Beverly Wilshire. The union demands include an immediate 20% to 25% bump in pay, better health care plans, and a pension plan. Ninety-six percent of the union's members voted to go on strike. The labor union stated that workers could not afford to live near where they work and were in desperate need of higher pay.

Two Rail Unions Reach Deal with CSX Railroad for Paid Sick Time (Micro News for February 4, 2023 – February 10, 2023)

CSX Transportation reached a deal with union negotiators over paid sick leave. Two unions representing engineers and mechanical workers were involved in the agreement. About 5,000 CSX employees will now get four days of paid sick time off per year. Workers can also use three personal days for sick leave if needed. Employees can also contribute unused sick days to their retirement plans or choose to be paid for the accumulated unused days.
